The companies key requirement was to have a very early warning fire detection system due to the size of the warehouse, the number of staff employed and the flammability of the products contained inside the centre.

Fire alarm and security system installer Britannia Fire & Security were selected to supply and install a state-of-the-art Aspirating Smoke Detection system throughout a brand new distribution centre in Peterborough for a major retailer. The companies key requirement was to have a very early warning fire detection system due to the size of the warehouse, the number of staff employed and the flammability of the products contained inside the centre.
Gent Fire Detection System
A new Gent 4 loop Vigilon 24 control panel, manufactured by Honeywell, was selected by Britannia as being the best product for the job and it was installed throughout the ground floor of the warehouse.
The feature-packed Vigilon fire detection and alarm system is perfect for medium to large sized building owners. It offers a degree of system sophistication that has not previously been available and incorporates a host of features designed to make it the simplest system to install, configure and use.
As well as providing the user with clear comprehensive information in the event of a fire, the Vigilon 24 additionally provides an entire historic log of the system’s management information. Should a system fault occur a detailed explanation is shown and the user can at any time navigate through the fault’s history.
Gent FAAST Smoke Detection System
Additionally a Gent FAAST Aspirating Smoke Detection was installed throughout the centre. The FAAST Fire Alarm system is a new generation of smoke detectors from Honeywell, which uses advanced technologies and software to deliver the earliest and most accurate smoke detection.
The FAAST device range is designed to protect people and assets in even the most challenging environments where standard detection methods fail or are prone to false alarm, or in areas which may not previously have been protected.
The whole system was installed to BS5839 Classification L1. This classification includes automatic fire detection in all rooms, on all escape routes and in all voids over 800mm in height. Sounders were also positioned throughout the building to achieve a minimum of 65dB(A).
