Fire Alarm Monitoring Company
A fire alarm that sounds in an empty building warns nobody. Britannia’s commercial fire alarm monitoring sends every activation to an alarm receiving centre, where trained operators follow agreed procedures and alert the fire and rescue service or your keyholders, day or night.
Monitoring covers the hours a building can’t raise the alarm itself: warehouses overnight, offices at weekends, schools in the holidays.
BS 5839-1:2025 tightens the recommendations for remote monitoring:
The standard for alarm receiving centres is BS EN 50518; transmission equipment is covered by BS EN 54-21 and BS EN 50136-1.
Two changes outside the standard matter as much. Many fire services, including London, Scotland, West Yorkshire and Hampshire, no longer attend automatic alarms at most commercial premises without confirmation, some at any hour. And the analogue phone network switches off on 31 January 2027, so communicators still on PSTN lines will stop signalling and need moving to IP, mobile or radio, ideally dual-path.
Tell us your panel make and how it signals now, and we’ll quote for connection and monitoring on flexible terms.

Commercial fire alarm monitoring means a third-party service actively watches your fire alarm system around the clock. When an alarm activates, they assess the situation and can alert emergency services immediately-especially vital when your business is unoccupied.
With around 1,600 arson attacks weekly in England – 60% occurring when buildings are empty – monitoring ensures timely emergency response, even outside business hours. It safeguards your premises when no one’s on-site to manually raise the alarm.
Monitoring services offer immediate response. They quickly determine if an alarm is real or false and, if needed, alert the fire department swiftly. This rapid reaction helps minimise damage, downtime, and safety risks.
Monitored systems reduce false alarms, lower business disruption, and remove the burden of alarms from staff. With 24/7 protection, you get peace of mind knowing your property is always watched – regardless of holidays or off-hours.
When your fire alarm activates, the signal is instantly sent to a monitoring centre. Trained operators verify the alert and contact emergency services if required. This ensures rapid, reliable protection at all times, even when premises are empty.
Yes. Trained operators verify signals before escalating a response, which helps reduce unnecessary callouts. Verification procedures, combined with intelligent detection technology, can identify activations caused by factors such as dust, steam, or system faults.
Monitoring is not always a legal requirement, but it is often recommended as part of a building’s wider fire safety strategy. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to ensure the fire alarm system is effective, and monitoring can support this duty in unoccupied or higher risk premises.
When a confirmed fire signal is received, the monitoring centre can alert the fire and rescue service in line with agreed procedures. This helps ensure a fast response, particularly outside of working hours when no one may be present on site.
In many cases, yes. Insurers often look favourably on monitored fire alarm systems because they provide a verified response and help limit damage. Some policies may require monitoring for higher risk premises or buildings with valuable stock and equipment.
Yes. Monitored fire alarm systems can often be integrated with intruder alarms, CCTV, and access control. This supports a coordinated response, allowing operators to combine information from different systems when an activation occurs.
