Intruder Alarm System Grades
Intruder Alarm System Grades
Grade 1
Homeowners who require basic security for their property would be best suited to a Grade 1 intruder alarm. These alarms will give the most protection from opportunist thieves with little knowledge on disarming alarm systems. Key areas of the home will be covered under the Grade 1 alarms, with the front door being the focus, though other areas of the home may not be protected – it is advisable that Grade 1 alarms are in place for areas that are low-risk.
Grade 2
People who live in a higher risk home would find greater use of Grade 2 intruder alarms. They cover multiple areas and alarms of this calibre are prepared for planned burglaries and more experienced criminals. Others who would benefit from this grade alarm system would include people who own small commercial properties.
Grade 3
Medium to high-risk properties should be fitted with a Grade 3 alarm, this can include some homes and most commercial premises. Multiple entry points will be covered with this level of alarm system. However, intruders who target this type of property will most likely have a comprehensive range of tools and portable electronic equipment; these alarms are made to protect against this threat-level.
Grade 4
The most sophisticated system is Grade 4, which would cover extremely high-risk properties which are likely to have highly valuable or dangerous contents inside. The likes of banks and art galleries are likely to have Grade 4 alarms which prepares for organised thefts, with multiple people attempting to break in and a wealth of knowledge and equipment. These systems are rare due to the standards required.
What Intruder Alarm Grade Do I Need?
Key factors need to be considered when you pick the intruder alarm grade that is right for you, including the following:
- Do you want to err on the side of caution?
- Is the property a small, commercial premises?
- Has the area been targeted?
- Are the items inside highly valuable or dangerous?
However, the best way to determine your intruder alarm system is by completing a risk assessment in line with the EN50131, which explains a structured risk assessment for distributors.
Once a risk assessment has been adequately completed, a suitable graded system will be recommended.
The grade required needs to be carried out across the premises as the lowest grade will set the standard for the entire property. For example, if the sensor is a Grade 2, but everything else is Grade 3, the standard of the system will be reduced to Grade 2.
